We are seeking motivated, hard-working, and good-natured individuals to join our team for the upcoming, 2024 season. We are looking for folks that are interested in sustainable agriculture, and that want to make it part of their lifestyle. If you are passionate about healthy food, community, and finding meaning and enjoyment in a hard day's work alongside a group of fun-loving farmers, we would love for you to join our team!
Positions Available:
Farm Crew Member Starting at $17/hour D.O.E...2 days paid vacation + end of season bonus + access to free produce every week 25-40 hours/week* Tuesday-Friday; mid-March through November *The amount of hours will vary throughout the season, with fewer hours in the early spring and late fall, and more hours during the peak season (May-September) * Farm Crew Members must be available to commit to entire season Description: Our farm crew is the backbone of the farm and help us in all tasks from seed to harvest in order to produce sustainably grown vegetables and flowers. Daily activities include transplanting, weeding, soil preparation, crop removal, harvesting/packaging produce, organization, crop maintenance, and greenhouse work. Farm crew members will likely also have the opportunity to engage with the community through farmers market shifts during the summer season as well as on-farm events. The Farm Crew position is a truly hands-on experience, and you will take part in many aspects of growing high-quality vegetables on our small-scale farm. Farming is a labor of love and an incredibly rewarding experience. This is an outdoor position that can often be both physically and mentally stimulating and tiring, as we work in all types of weather throughout the season (sun, heat, rain, wind, etc). We work in a fast-paced environment and focus on a diverse variety of daily tasks to keep the work day interesting, though there is a lot of precision and repetition in the work. We expect our employees to be able to follow directions, work quickly and efficiently, communicate well, and be receptive to learning many new skills and receiving feedback. Farm work is skilled labor, and it will take time to master each task; approaching the work with a learning mindset and a dedication towards improvement is imperative. You will often be working alongside crew members to complete projects, so a positive attitude and enthusiasm for teamwork is a must, and the ability to be independently motivated for individual tasks is equally important. We want our team to see the beauty and importance of the work we are doing, and also be able to approach the hard parts with a sense of humor. Farming isn't easy, but it is frequently fun, breathtakingly beautiful, and always extremely gratifying.
Qualifications:
An ideal candidate would have at least 1 year of prior farm experience, or experience in a related field of manual, skilled labor, though this is not required
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to repeatedly bend, kneel, and work on feet for 8+ hours
A desire and willingness to learn the ins and outs of farming
Ability to work in a variety of weather events including: rain, frost, extreme heat, wind, etc.
High attention to detail and ability to follow direction
The desire to work in a fun, fast-paced environment alongside a friendly team
Reliable transportation to and from the farm
Farmers Market Staff + Harvest Helper Starting at $17/hour D.O.E + end of season bonus + access to free produce every week 10-15 hours/week. Wednesdays and Fridays. May-August
Description: We are seeking a friendly, enthusiastic, outgoing, and self-motivated individual with a clean driving record to join the team as both our Farmers Market Staff Person and Harvest Helper. You will have several roles on the farm.
Wednesdayswill consist of some variation of light field work/training in the beginning of the season, and then will switch to staffing the Wednesday evening Farmers Market in Ione starting in June. (Market shifts will likely start at 2pm and end around 9pm) Fridays will be all about harvest! You'll join the team as we harvest loads of vegetables for our farmers markets. Harvest days are fun, vibrant, and delicious. This part of the job is hands-on and requires attention to detail and the ability to work quickly and efficiently for long periods of time. Harvest takes the majority of the 8 hour shift on Fridays. This job is less physically demanding than our "Farm Crew position" but still requires the ability to repeatedly bend, kneel, and work on feet for 8 hours. We will train you how to harvest, wash, package, and prepare tons of beautiful produce for the markets in both a team setting and an individual setting. Be ready to pick (and taste!) a crazy amount of summertime veggies!
Farmers Market Duties: Those applying for this position will be interacting with our customers at the farmers market, and will ideally have a passion for connecting the community with locally grown products. You will be representing Upcountry Farms and our growing methods while distributing our produce to the community, thus a deep appreciation for healthy, sustainably grown, local food is imperative to this role. This is an outdoor position that requires a positive presence, attention to detail, ability to multitask and keep an organized workspace, and the ability to engage with customers in a friendly and welcoming way. A talent for remembering names and faces is key, and a warm and welcoming demeanor is a must as we have a strong following of regulars and we want them to feel cared for every week. You will be helping customers select their vegetables, answering questions, giving cooking suggestions, loading bags, and dealing with credit cards and cash. This role can often be fast-paced, fun, and dynamic while ensuring that the market booth is well-stocked and customer flow is smooth. Previous experience in customer service, working with a POS system, and dealing with cash, and counting back change is preferred but not required. Opportunities to take on additional shifts at the Saturday Farmers Market in Sutter Creek may also become available.

Clean driving record
Ability to lift 50 pounds
A friendly, positive attitude and an enthusiasm for engaging with community
Ability to repeatedly bend, kneel, and work on feet for 8+ hours
Reliable transportation to and from the farm
Ability to work in a variety of weather events including: rain, frost, extreme heat, wind, etc.
High attention to detail and ability to follow direction
The desire to work in a fun, fast-paced environment alongside a friendly team
